Registration Information
The deadline to register to vote in New Jersey is 21 days before the election. Be sure your form is received 21 days before the election.
To qualify to register to vote in New Jersey, you must be:
- A United States citizen,
- At least 18 years old by the next election, and
- A resident of the county for 30 days before the election.

Primary Election:
There is not a statewide early voting program, but some counties do allow it. Contact your County Election Office to find out if early voting in-person by absentee ballot is available in your county.
Any registered voter may vote early by absentee ballot prior to Election Day. You must apply for a Vote by Mail ballot; and to receive your ballot by mail, the application must be received by the County Clerk no later than May 28th if by mail (or by 3:00pm on June 3rd if in person). Your mail-in ballot must be received by the County Clerk before the polls close on Election Day.
General Election:

What do you need to bring?
If you’ve previously voted in a federal election in New Jersey, you likely won't need to bring an ID with you to the polls.
If you did not provide identification at the time of registration or if the identification information could not be verified, you must show identification at the polling place when you go to vote.
Identification may include, but not limited to, any current and valid photo ID such as:
- Driver's license
- Student or job ID
- Military or other government ID
- Store membership ID
- United States passport
OR
- Bank statement
- Car registration
- Government check or document
- Non-photo drivers license
- Rent receipt
- Sample ballot
- Utility bill
- Or any other official document
