Tell us about your first concert experience:
Nick was 12, and crowd surfed the whole time because it was so easy for people to pick him up. Also the opener was Elliot Smith, and people were booing, despite his being Elliot Smith.
If you couldn’t be a musician, what would you be doing instead?
Physicist, video game designer, skateboarder, soccer player.
If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
If you became President, what is the first action you would take?
Increase funding to improve the quality of public education for all. Because smart electorate equals smart government.
What social cause is closest to your heart?
Globalization... We can't wait to see less of an "us and them" mentality in the world.
What does the right to vote mean to you?
The right to vote empowers people to make their voices heard.
What bands or artists did you listen to when you were in high school? And which bands or artists influenced your style the most?
We listened to a lot of jazz in high school. Bill Evans, 60s Coltrane, Keith Jarrett. It was later that we became influenced by artists like Bob Dylan, Elliott Smith, and the Beatles.
What activity or group were you involved with in high school that might surprise people today?
Jazz band. We toured Europe and played large festivals like the Mentreaux Jazz Festival, where we played for trilingual beauties.
What's the biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in high school? (could be personal or academic)
The same as everyone else…realizing we exist.
Do you do any volunteer or community work when you're not on tour?
Some of us teach music and other school subjects to underprivileged kids
What change would you like to see in our society in the next year?
Oh dear, just keep leaning in the right direction.
