If you couldn’t be a musician, what would you be doing instead?
Erica: i would be singing whether professional or not. I have always sang, political events, churches, schools wherever. I've never imagined being or doing any thing else.
Tina: I didn't have a plan b; I just knew i would have a career in music, not sure what capacity, but I was sure of music; whether it been teaching music or starting some organization to offer music as an outlet. I was destined to have a career in music in some way; and maybe makeup artist on the side, but music would be primary.
If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Tina; Michael jackson, he was he greatest entertainer of all time. Excellence was his motto and he was just that.
Erica: James Taylor and Oleta Adams. They both have classic voices and the melodies they sing move me; and I just think it would be pretty dope.
If you became President, what is the first action you would take?
invest in this country's youth; by investing more in our educational system with funding and vocational programs to build great people; which helps to build our country. Securing the future of our elderly by protecting social security and medicaid benefits. Protecting our soldiers/veterans and their families with small business loans, no hassle home loans, debt recovery/protection, healthcare - physical and mental; job placement
What social cause is closest to your heart?
Feeding the Hungry; rehabilitating not just housing criminal offenders.
What does the right to vote mean to you?
Letting my voice be heard; given the right to have voice in the legislations and policies that shape our communities and ultimately our nation. I have a right to create the change that I deem necessary in my country.
What bands or artists did you listen to when you were in high school? And which bands or artists influenced your style the most?
Jodeci and New Edition. But we're influenced by gospel legends; the winans, clark sisters and the hawkins.
What activity or group were you involved with in high school that might surprise people today?
Black Student Union; we had african names and didn't get traditional school jackets - we wore BSU sweaters.
What's the biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in high school?
Erica: Being insecure and very shy. Definitely wasn't the most popular chick in school; but I sang in all the school programs.
Tina: Shyness and lack of confidence. (could be personal or academic)
Do you do any volunteer or community work when you're not on tour?
Yes we create our own initiatives through Mary Mary that help communities through our Do Something Big campaign. And we are also apart of a LA based organization Choice Group that provides music education to less affluent urban communities; as well provide needed resources for children that are apart of the program i.e.; food, clothing and back to school supplies etc. So it doesn't just benefit the kids, which helps the family and ultimately helps the communities.
