Jeffrey Jeffrey Tonnesen

Rising from the hippest rooms in downtown New York and the fashion runways of the world, Jeffrey Tonnesen has built a name for himself as an up-and-coming dance music producer and big room house DJ. His unique style and tailored sound have caught the attention of international recording artists, yielding remixes with Cobra Starship, Nina Sky, Dev and Enrique Iglesias.

Tonnesen is nonetheless staying true to his NYC roots: while traveling frequently to destinations like Las Vegas, Hong Kong, and the South of France, he retains his 2012 weekly residencies at Lavo, Avenue and PH-D. His career began with high profile fashion events including the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, the Bienalle in Venice, a Prada show in Tokyo, and fashion shows for ACNE, DVF, and Rag & Bone, but has now expanded to a wider audience as he entertains clubgoers around the world. Tonnesen’s greatest pleasure and constant goal is to be known for his ability to play the perfect song for the perfect moment time and again.

Tell us about your first concert experience:
My mom took me to see Michael Jackson when I was 4. I guess that was my first concert.

If you couldn’t be a musician, what would you be doing instead?
High school history teacher.

If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Larry Levan- he, more than any other artist, changed the way I feel about music and dance music.

If you became President, what is the first action you would take?
I would reform our education system.  Every child in this country deserves the same amount of funding for their schooling.

What social cause is closest to your heart?
Lately, it has been gay rights, but I am interested in expanding civil rights in general.

What does the right to vote mean to you?
It means my ideas for our government are being considered as new laws are made.

What bands or artists did you listen to when you were in high school? And which bands or artists influenced your style the most?
My music taste in high school was particularly diverse, but the music I make now is influenced by dance music artists and DJs like Daft Punk, Chemical Brothers and Green Velvet.

What activity or group were you involved with in high school that might surprise people today?
I was in the art club.

What's the biggest obstacle that you had to overcome in high school? (could be personal or academic)
I was just different. Most of the kids in my school were pretty unaccepting of anything nonconventional and they took that out on me.

Do you do any volunteer or community work when you're not on tour?
Yes. I volunteer at an organization aimed at helping people who struggle with drug addition.

What change would you like to see in our society in the next year?
Education reform!!!
