FIELD ORGANIZER

Rock the Vote Southwest (RTVSW) is a project of Rock the Vote, a nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging and building political power for the youth of our country. Rock the Vote Southwest’s mission is to educate young people in the traditionally underrepresented states of the Southwest about the political process as a means to engage and increase their voter registration and participation in the 2012 election.

What we are looking for:

Rock the Vote (www.rockthevote.com) is seeking a field organizer to join our 2012 team.  Ideal candidates will be creative, energetic, and articulate bilingual communicators with the ability to connect with and enthusiastically promote Rock the Vote and voter education amongst our target audience of young  Americans, with special emphasis on outreach to Hispanic and Native Americans. Additionally, ideal candidates will be self-starters, honest, and diligent about reporting to the Program Manager on a regular basis.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Working with the Program Manager and RTVSW team to develop a work plan that meets project goals and identifies the best tactics to engage our target audience.
  • Engaging and building relationships with civic and community organizations, youth groups, high schools, and colleges to educate and register their members.
  • Generating awareness and support by engaging with local radio and television personalities (and station managers) to motivate them to: (1) talk to their audience about the importance of voter registration and voting, and (2) broadcast RTV public service announcements to encourage their youthful listeners/viewers to register to vote.
  • Conducting Rock the Vote’s high school civics education program, “Democracy Class,” where appropriate as a means to educating newly eligible individuals to register to vote.
  • Distributing voter registration and “get-out-the-vote” information at gathering places for young voters (libraries, YMCAs, etc.);
  • Supporting Rock the Vote national staff by providing content for the blog, social media channels and rockthevote.com.
  • Performing other duties as necessary; assisting with special projects when requested.
  • Attending quarterly meetings of project staff and Program Manager to compare notes, share experiences, and suggest new and creative methods to achieve the Project’s goals.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bilingual and fluent in either English/Spanish or English/Native American language
  • Excellent personal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Dependable, honest, organized, and self-disciplined
  • Ability to multitask and shift priorities; aptitude for working under tight deadlines
  • Commitment to the organizational mission and ideology in order to effectively promote and advance the goals of Rock the Vote
  • Goal-orientation and willingness to hold self accountable through daily or weekly reports to Program Manager.
  • Willingness to travel extensively within region and to quarterly staff retreats (in the Southwest)
  • Ability to work well with coalitions and the staff and leadership of allied organizations
  • A team orientation that combines collegiality and creativity to drive and motivate others.
  • Clean driving record, current driver’s license, and proof of insurance

Compensation:

Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits, including health and dental insurance and a retirement plan.
